Before the announcement of her departure from Puerto Rico’s electoral policy, graduate Alexandra Lugaro explained her reasons for leaving it, criticizing the masculinity that is lived in it and talking about her future job.
In an interview with Ràdio Illa, the former candidate for governor for the Victòria Ciutadana Movement, spoke about how difficult it is to fit into country politics by coming up with a different way of thinking and planting power structures.
“It’s extremely hard to get into politics, but even more so if you’re a woman, if you’re young, if you’re free to say what you think and if you’re willing to face the structures that for years led us to here “, comment.
For the also-passed independent candidate for governor, and gaining 11 percent of electoral support, “this masculinity has hardened because it has normalized, all you have to do is go on Twitter and an easy search to see misogeny.”

On the reasons for her exit from politics, the graduate spoke about the different reasons that led her to make this decision, ranging from her daughter, to the economic reality she has lived for the last six years, where assures he did not earn income.
“I can’t deny that this is a factor (her daughter) that somehow affects the decision but it’s not what gives her the most weight. My family has supported me during this process, my family knows because I entered electoral politics and they know how dirty electoral politics can be, and it is unfortunate that from such a young age my daughter has had to see how we live in a country where there are no longer professional or ethical lines, these lines they believe in attacking the most precious thing for a human being, if this human being is willing to face very particular interests and in this sense because my daughter understood it, my family has understood it and we have tried to keep this nucleus protected , although it is a big burden. Also, without a doubt, the economic part, I have been six years looking to continue helping the country and during this process as one is not reporting income, we have had to make an endless of arrangements, “he said.
Without having had an interest in politics in her youth, the last candidate for governor expressed her desire that the spaces through which she has passed be occupied by other people. “I think at staff it’s time for me to be able to contribute from other spaces as well to change the things I want them to have a kind of movement,” he assured.
Currently, the graduate commented that she has several job offers, and will soon be making the announcement of where she will be headed, although she ruled out occupying some unelected position in government.
Lugaro was an independent candidate for governor in the 2016 elections, and then ran for the same position in 2020 under the Citizen Victory Movement.
