Madden NFL 21 reveals new SpongeBob crossover content “Reef-Top”

Electronic Arts has revealed the new content of SpongeBob SquarePants for Madden NFL 21. At The Yard, players will be able to check out SpongeBob Reef-Top’s new location, which includes a plethora of images of the character, in addition to the Nickelodeon brand. Players can see the Krusty Krab up close, while a SpongeBob float and the Nickelodeon balloon can be found in the air. Completing location challenges will allow players to unlock unique series-based material as well as new game modes. The timing of the event seems to coincide with this weekend’s NFL Wild Card game that will air simultaneously on CBS and Nickelodeon.

SpongeBob content will include three new modes in total: The Ghosting Grab by Flying Dutchman, Sandy Rocket Arm Rally and The Goo Lagoon Bowl. In The Flying Dutchman’s Ghostly Grab, players will be able to jump higher, making impressive catches. Long touchdowns also generate bonus points. At the Sandy Rocket Arm Rally, players will be able to throw passes of 80 yards and up. Last but not least, The Goo Lagoon Bowl has players moving in slow motion.

While the association between SpongeBob and Madden certainly seems unusual, the crossover content also seems quite interesting. All the images in the trailer actually appear on the screen, with colors much brighter than those usually seen by Madden fans. It’s impossible to say what kind of cross-cutting appeal there might be for fans of the character and Madden, but for those who love both, this content should turn out to be a bit fun. Madden NFL 21 fans who are not interested in this content can always check out the latest title update, which was released to the game today.
