Hand-drawn game guides creator Philip Summers I knew it was a legal risk to launch on Kickstarter their magnificent Nintendo storybook style game guides, but it was a risk he was willing to take. When poured all magnificent works of art of his unofficial Metroid, Contra, Ninja Gaiden i Legend of Zelda guides, you can see why.

He Kickstarter for the project was shown a series of fantastic full-color comic tours designed to take players on the complex missions and objectives of each featured game. According to Summers, the intent of these guides was to reproduce the feeling of flipping through a good play guide when I was a child, with all the wonder and spectacle that accompanied it.

But while the game guides look absolutely awesome – and were very successful on Kickstarter, with a rake insee $ 300,000 – The project has been canceled, courtesy of Nintendo.

In a recent update, Summers shared the terrible news that the books would no longer go into production.

“Tonight I threw the cap on the Kickstarter of Hand-Drawn Game Guides. Yes, exactly for the reason you think it is, “he said in a Kickstarter update.” I was hoping to be able to successfully navigate through any legal issues, but unfortunately I couldn’t. “

For fans of the project, it’s a major nuisance, but Summers says he’s still grateful for the experience.

“Of course, I’m disappointed, but I completely understand why this happened,” he explained. “It’s okay. I’m not crazy.”

For now, all orders from the game guides will be canceled, though Summers says he will find out if the project is really dead in the water “in the next few days.” Sponsors can expect a cancellation email shortly if they don’t already have one, and all money will be refunded using your payment method.

It really is a disappointing event.

Although these game guides would always have IP issues Nintendo is notoriously strict about protecting its assets, each book is a lavish work of art, created after meticulous hours of work. Summers ’talent and passion are clear on every page and frankly their game guides look much better than anything else on the market..

We hope that Summers will be able to produce these guides with some capacity, either through official channels or a whole reworking of the project.

These Hand-drawn game guides they deserve their time in the sun and a place on all our shelves, regardless of Nintendo’s efforts to get the project done.
