Make-up artist Alfonso Waithsman reveals how hard it was to work with Angelica Rivera

It was in November 2014 when, through his social media, Alfonso Waithsman announced that he would travel to Beijing, China, alongside the then First Lady, Angelica Rivera, as part of the team that led the former president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto.

“Friends, I disconnect from social media for a few days because I’m going to China, what a thrill, see you in a week and document the moments,” the makeup artist wrote at the time from Facebook. “CHINA … There I go,” he shared on Twitter alongside a photograph aboard a plane.

His messages caused outrage among netizens and he was the subject of severe criticism and threats.

Despite the outrage he caused, the makeup artist continued to work with Angelica Rivera, with whom he now maintains a close friendship.
