An arrest warrant was issued for a man accused of murder in connection with the death of a Houston woman who went missing in late July, Houston police said.
Jordan Potts, 26, is charged with the death of 21-year-old Shawtyeria Waites. Police are actively searching for Potts, where the whereabouts are unknown.
Waites was last seen alive on July 25 at approximately 8 p.m. outside an apartment complex located on block 8900 of Chimney Rock Road.
Earlier that night he had been celebrating his birthday with two friends. While at a club, the women met a man, later identified as Potts, who invited them to his apartment complex in southwest Houston, Quanell X said during an Aug. 8 briefing with the parents of Waites.
Friends told the Waites family that they left Waites at the apartment complex before going to a nearby store to buy makeup. When they returned to the complex, they could not find Waites or Potts.
Announcements
Friends called Waites ’cell phone several times, and at some point the calls started going straight to the voicemail, Quanell X said.
Waites went missing on July 27 and the Missing Persons Unit of the Houston Police Department began investigating her disappearance.

On August 13, investigators found evidence of brutal gambling on Waites’ disappearance, and the case was assigned to the HPD Homicide Division. According to a statement from HPD, the homicide detectives determined that Waites was murdered inside Potts’ apartment. Waites ‘body was placed in the trunk of Potts’ vehicle and transported from the scene. On Friday, August 27, police located Waites’ remains in Brookshire.
Announcements
Formal identification is pending, although physical evidence indicates the remains are from Waites, police said.
Waites, originally from New Mexico, moved to Houston to attend Prairie View A&M University School, Quanell X said.
Anyone with information about the case or who is aware of the Potts Parador is asked to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or the Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
Quanell X and Waites ‘parents held a briefing on Waites’ disappearance in early August. See full information below.
