Man arrested after boarding government fleet at Andrews Joint Base

Maryland authorities have jailed a man accused of boarding one of the aircraft at the military facility that houses aircraft used by senior government officials, including the president. A U.S. official told CBS News that the Andrews Joint Base (JBA) security breach did not affect the presidential fleet.

In a statement, the JBA confirmed that on Thursday night a male individual with two pending orders entered one of the C-40B aircraft assigned to the 89th Air Bridge Wing.

Joint base Andrews said the man was unarmed and did not harm any personnel, and there are no indications that the individual has any ties to extremist groups. JBA authorities handed the man over to local authorities because of his pending orders, and he is in the custody of the Prince George’s Maryland County Sheriff’s Office.

Apparently, the individual headed to the premises.

The Air Force said in a statement Friday that the inspector general will conduct a non-compliance investigation and a thorough review of facilities around the world.

In addition to housing the presidential fleet, the base hosts aircraft used by the vice president and other senior officials such as the secretary of defense.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby reported Friday that the base changed its security protocols as a result of the breach and that everyone in the Department of Defense knows how serious it is.
