A man died last week after a so-called “strange accident” at a McDonald’s window in Vancouver, Canada.
Vancouver police said the man opened the door to get something he dropped from the window while paying. When he opened the door and leaned out to get it, the car rolled forward. The door touched a part of the restaurant and was fixed between the door and the frame.
“The first lifeguards made an effort to revive the man, but he tragically died on the scene,” Vancouver police said. Tania Visintin said in a press release. “This is an absolutely heartbreaking scenario. Our deepest condolences are presented to this man’s family and friends. “
Police said there are surveillance footage of the crash, but they are looking for motorists who may have camera footage of the crash as well as eyewitnesses.
“Usually when we hear about a fatal motor vehicle accident [is] normally, usually an accident with another vehicle, “Visintin told 680 News.” So the fact that there was no other vehicle involved … seems like a strange accident. ”
The victim’s name has not been released.
These accidents are not unheard of in the access windows, as people trying to retrieve something from outside the car can lean over an open door without leaving the vehicle in the park.
In 2012, also in Canada, a woman suffered serious injuries in such a situation, when her foot slipped from the brake and the car rolled forward.
In 2018, a motorist opened a door to a Jack In The Box car in St. Louis. Louis to get his food. He tried to make a backup, but accelerated as he did so, hit a tree and got stuck between the car and the tree.
