Researchers in Thailand believe that a mangrove tree extract could help fight baldness.
It has been found that the extract, called Avicequinon C, prevents the body from producing hormones that can cause hair loss.
To date, the research team at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chulalongkorn University has tested the extract on a group of 50 men and women with androgenic alopecia, the most common form of hair loss.

Participants had made visible improvements after one month iwIn addition, it seemed that the treatment not only stopped hair loss but also increased hair growth.
This means that it can help people who have already lost more than their good amount of hair.
The next step is to test the extract with more volunteers, so that it can be approved by the Food and Drug Administration of Thailand.
In case of obtaining the approval, a private company has already bought the research patent, which it can use to develop a product for hair loss.

Professor Wanchai Deeknamkul, of the Faculty of Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Botany, said: “We found that it had many benefits. First, it prevents enzymes from producing hair loss hormones and second, it could also help produce the protein that stimulates hair growth.
“We took pictures of the heads of the volunteers in every corner and also used a microscope to look at the hair loss area to examine the nature of the hair loss and make an appointment a month later and repeat the same process. for four consecutive months.
“We compared images from the same point and found that only a month later, participants showed positive changes with an improvement in hair strength that also adheres well to the scalp, while none of the participants showed no allergic reactions “.
He added that its natural derivation could make it a more desirable option than synthetic alternatives.

He explained: “We examined more than 50 herbal extracts and more than 20 pure substances and found that Avicennia Marin extract contains the active ingredient Avicequinone C, which inhibits the enzyme that produces hair loss hormones.
“In addition, Avicennia Marin extract helps build proteins that can also promote hair growth. Thus helping to completely solve the problem of hair loss.
“Several cosmetic products that claim to treat hair loss consist mainly of chemically synthesized drugs. They can cause unwanted side effects, especially allergic reactions and inflammation of the skin and affect the body system.
“In addition, almost all have not been scientifically tested or investigated to determine the mechanism of action of the substances used.
“In the past, we imported synthetic drugs from foreign countries both topically and orally, but they only had results of 30% and 48% respectively. In addition, the side effects were also much higher.
“Therefore, extracts from Avicennia Marin plants found in Thai mangrove forests will reduce the import of these synthetic drugs. It can also be an export product that also creates market value for the country.”
