Tegucigalpa, Honduras
The presidential nominee, Ricardo Álvarez, Has assured that removing the system of Transmission of Preliminary Electoral Results (Trep) from the next first elections is an undemocratic measure and a setback in Honduran political history.
The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Rixi Moncada, Announced that the Trep will not be implemented in the next elections on March 14, because the tender to hire the companies that were going to launch it was declared a failure.
“However, eliminating this system I think is an undemocratic decision and a setback in the political life of the country, it also sends a signal of little transparency with which anything can happen in the way of parties,” he warned.
The campaign coordinator of the nationalist movement “Together We Can”, headed by the President of the National Congress, Mauricio Oliva, said that “I would like 100% of the election results to be transmitted by the Trep”.
He also denounced that “there are marked interests in tilting the candidacies of mayors, deputies and presidents, this could lead to the will of the people that is what we want to be reflected in the acts is not what is given.”
“It is sad because they have made a totally wrong decision, anti-democratic, anti-modern and it shows that we are not taking the right steps a few days before the election,” he said.
Alvarez said that “I do not understand the logic behind this situation because from the beginning they began to discredit some internationally renowned companies and from there I began to generate suspicions until it came to remove the Trep”.
“I think that within the National Party we will have to look for some mechanisms to be able to guarantee ours Trep internally, one of them would be to take a photograph of each of the acts, at least in our movement this will be done and the instructions will be turned in this regard, “he said.
