With COVID-19 variants appearing across the country, mixed with a slow deployment of vaccines, health experts say masking is more important than ever.
“The most important thing is that everyone wears a mask,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of NIAID.
And not just one but two, according to some experts. Members of President Biden’s cabinet agree.
“It just makes common sense that it would probably be more effective,” Fauci said.
The CDC does not explicitly recommend double masking or say the same for an N-95, although the CDC and the World Health Organization recommend multi-layered fabric masks.
“I’m not a doctor. I don’t want to tell anyone who has trouble breathing that, since they have a high risk of suffering a lung, they need a double mask. These are decisions that have to be based on the ability to breathe,” he said. say Vicky Kistler, director of the Allentown Health Office.
The Allentown Health Office complies with current CDC guidelines until it says otherwise. Kistler says it’s hard enough to try to get people to wear a mask, let alone bend over.
“What we tell people is that if you have a two-layer fabric mask with a good seal, you should protect yourself,” Kistler said.
If you’re one of the lucky few who’s been vaccinated, you won’t get away with it. Experts say that until the community is immunized and community outreach is minimized, you need to bring one or two, if you will.
