Marcus Rashford shares “unacceptable” food packages, prompting an investigation by the UK government

One publish of a Twitter user named Roadside Mum on Monday, who shared more than 27,000 times, detailed the articles sent to him by Chartwells, one of the companies hired by the UK government.

The road mother said the package contained ingredients for making two potatoes with beans and eight cheese sandwiches, as well as snacks, pasta and a single tomato.

According to the message, the package lasted for ten days and was issued to him instead of £ 30 ($ 40) in vouchers that the families of the plan had previously received.

“I could do more with £ 30 to be honest,” wrote Roadside Mum, who said he could have bought the same amount of food for £ 5.22 ($ 7.10) at a supermarket. “The private company that has the #FSM contract got good profits here,” the message added.

Vendor charts answered on Twitter, saying, “This does not reflect the specification of one of our obstacles.” The company asked for more details so it could “investigate immediately.”

CNN has contacted Chartwells for further comment.

Sharing several images of food packages that had been sent to families, Rashford he tweeted: “Kids deserve better than that.”
The Minister of Children, Vicky Ford he tweeted that it will “study it urgently,” while the Department of Education (DfE) will do the same dit who is “studying this.”

“We have clear guidelines and standards for food packages, which we hope will be met,” the DfE tweet said. “The plots need to be nutritious and contain a wide range of food.”

Marcus Rashford scores a hat trick on the pitch and causes turmoil in the UK government

Manchester United footballer Rashford last year campaigned for 1.3 million children to claim free school lunch vouchers during England’s summer holidays, forcing the British government to change of meaning. He was honored by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his campaign.

On Tuesday, Rashford posted a Twitter thread after a conversation with Chartwells that morning. He said there was little communication with suppliers before the government announced the closure of England.

“Kids shouldn’t go hungry because we don’t communicate or be transparent with plans,” Rashford said. “This is unacceptable.”

British lawmaker Keir Starmer, leader of the opposition Labor Party, also entered.

“The images that appear online of free and sadly inappropriate school lunch packages are a disgrace,” he tweeted Tuesday Starmer. “Where is the money going? It needs to be sorted out immediately so families don’t go hungry through closure.”

In December, the humanitarian organization UNICEF announced that it would help feed people in parts of the UK for the first time in its 70-year history.

The United Nations (UN) agency said a “domestic emergency” meant vulnerable children and families needed help because of the Covid-19 crisis.

In May 2019, a UN report on poverty in the UK said the Conservative government remained in a “state of denial” about the 14 million people living on the support line, continuing its measures of austerity for almost a decade “despite the tragic social consequences.”

The UK is the fifth largest economy in the world, but one-fifth of its population lives in poverty.
