Maricopa County Opens Admission to COVID-19 Vaccine for Adults Over 65

PHOENIX: Adults 65 and older will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Maricopa County starting Monday, February 15th.

County health officials announced Thursday that they are expanding eligibility, as nearly 50 percent of people 75 and older have received at least one dose of vaccine.

RELATED: On Thursday, ADHS reported 1,861 new cases of COVID-19 and an additional 200 deaths.

On Monday, all vaccine locations in Maricopa County will begin administering doses to people 65 and older.

The decision is in line with the federal pharmacy vaccine program scheduled to begin later this week, which will take the vaccine to 182 pharmacies in Maricopa County.

“The data show that our decision to provide some extra time for older adults to access the vaccine has proven to be a success and it is now right to invite our residents 65 and older to step up and get vaccinated.” , said Marcy Flanagan, director of Maricopa County Department of Public Health.

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health estimates that there are about 400,000 adults in the age group between the ages of 65 and 74 who will be eligible for the vaccine in Maricopa County.

According to the latest data available from Maricopa County health officials, nearly 430,000, or 12%, of residents have been vaccinated with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

More than 120,000 Maricopa County residents, about one in four people who have leased a dose, have been completely vaccinated with two doses.

MCDPH makes vaccine appointments when and where they are convenient for people.

Efforts include: establishing five regional county-wide access points, and then adding a more central and public transportation sixth location with a pass option for those who do not have their own vehicles. .
