PHOENIX, AZ – Maricopa County did not receive zero doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine this week from the Arizona Department of Health Services, according to county officials.
Maricopa County uses the Pfizer vaccine at its POD locations throughout the valley.
The county says they only have enough doses of Pfizer on hand to meet POD appointments until Feb. 12. They even added that they will not cancel any appointment.
“Everyone recognizes that this is a shared supply issue that we need to address together. ADHS is committed to keeping Maricopa County’s POD at current capacity by providing doses as needed for supply,” county officials said.
The county says they received 20,000 doses of the Modern vaccine that is distributed to pharmacies and other health partners and are working on the logistics of the daily reallocation between the state and the county.
“Meanwhile, Public Health continues to focus on planning more events through the Modern Vaccine and the supply of local pharmacies to meet the priorities of Phases 1A and 1B,” the county added.
All this when Arizona hit a new milestone on Friday. The state has administered more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine than people who have tested positive.
Arizona will soon report 14,000 deaths in the state related to COVID-19, according to state data from the Arizona Department of Health Services.
ADHS reported an additional 196 deaths on Friday, bringing the total number of deaths to just under 14,000 to 13,948.
ABC15 data analyst Garrett Archer, found that last month, the state has had 22 days with a death report of more than 100, and 11 of which were more than 200.
