Mario Cárdenas Guillén, The M-1 O la Grossa– brother of the drug cartel ex-leader of the Golf Cartel, Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for organized crime on the assumption of committing crimes against health with functions of administration, supervision or direction, so he will remain incarcerated in a Federal Center for Social Rehabilitation.
The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) detailed that the M-1 he served as one of the leading leaders of the criminal organization the Gulf Cartel, responsible for drug trafficking, which operates in several states of the Mexican Republic.
According to the FGR, it was through the Office of the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime Investigation (Seido) and the Office of the Deputy Attorney General for Regional Control, Criminal Procedure and Protection (SCRPPA), based in Toluca, that this sentence was obtained on the basis of investigations into his involvement in organized crime.
Although he had been sentenced in June 2019, the defense appealed the ruling, so the federal judge ordered the reversal of proceedings; reason why, the Federal Public Ministry presented the corresponding evidence, So that the judicial authority based in the State of Mexico analyzed and handed down a sentence of 20 years in prison against this individual, although authorities have not disclosed the criminal where he will serve his sentence.
The now sentenced is the brother of the drug trafficker, Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, who was the leader of the Golf Cartel and who is now serving a sentence for the same crimes, but internationally, in the United States.
