Mario Durán, candidate of New Ideas, becomes the new mayor of San Salvador after defeating his contender Ernesto Muyshondt, of the party ARENA, that aspired to a second period to the front of the commune, according to preliminary data of the count of acts of the Supreme Electoral Court.
For his part, Muyshondt at a press conference held on Monday afternoon thanked those who supported him during his tenure as mayor of San Salvador.
“Over the last few months this has been the most vitiated process in the electoral, democratic history of our country. institutions and not just to promote pro-government candidates, but to persecute, harass, harm those they consider to be their political opponents, ”Muyshondt said.

The former mayor of San Salvador said the attack on his person, family and as a candidate was excessive during the months. He also explained that the non-payment of the Fodes was a strategy for the mayors not to carry out works and affect politically.
He described the electoral process as a constant violation of “never-before-seen” laws. However, he said he respected the decision of the voters.
“We respect the decision of the town and will do our best to make a transparent and orderly transition from the mayoralty of San Salvador to the people who will come to govern it,” he said.
“We will always continue to fight for our country, our democracy, our people, especially the most vulnerable people, our city and all Salvadorans,” he added.

In his farewell speech he also took a moment to refer to the actions of the executive: “Today there are no more excuses left to the Government, today it will no longer have a Legislative Assembly to blame for its failures. Now it will no longer have opposing mayoralties to block, attack or not pay the Fucks. The time has come for you to prove and stand out and not blame or look for culprits, “he said.

Duran was proclaimed the winner this Monday morning via his Twitter account, where he changed his profile information and is described as “elected mayor of the Capital of El Salvador.”
Later, his party also supported Duran’s announcement through a social media post.
