You know you can hit yourself with a blue shell Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? Speed racers do, and they want to explode with the first element of location orientation as quickly as possible.
Skilloz, current world record of the called hilarious category “Blue Yourself”, uploaded a video yesterday (h / t Polygon) proving that it is possible to go from the start of the race to spin in a Blue Shell explosion in just under 38 seconds. If you’re a Baby Daisy fan — there must be at least one of you — you might want to look the other way.
This is how Skilloz did it, according to the man himself:
The items you get depend on how far away you are from the first place. Knowing this, I put myself in the sandbag at first to have a good chance of getting a star. Then I go to the next set of items and I’m at the point where getting Triple Mushrooms is also a pretty decent opportunity. They are not too difficult to achieve if you are able to position yourself correctly.
The hardest part is getting the Blue Shell. There is no real way to manipulate it. You can only get a Blue Shell if you have at least 2,000 units behind the first place. Because it is as close as you can get, you have about a 5% chance of receiving a blue shell. You can also get a blue shell after 30 seconds in the game.
So when I doubt these item boards, I’m expecting these two things: CPU first to get at least 2,000 units ahead and 30 seconds of game time [to pass]. A member of our community, GsFlint, we have found that these two conditions can be basically aligned with each other [time] and Mario Circuit.
My favorite speedruns are the ones that see players take a small, preferably ridiculous, part of a game and get very serious about learning how to do it quickly. It’s hard to say how far low people will be able to get “Blue Yourself” Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but you can bet I’ll be watching without breathing.
