Mario’s games shine and Yakuza returns to the Top 40 | Graphics in UK boxes

This was another strong week for Nintendo in the UK this week, and in particular for its iconic pet.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is the best-selling box set in the UK for the fourth consecutive week, number 1 despite an 18% drop in sales. Meanwhile, other Mario titles on the charts enjoyed an increase in sales.

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is up to number 4 from number 6 after a 7% increase in sales. Meanwhile, Super Mario 3D All-Stars returns to the Top Ten at number 6 after a 36% increase in sales. The Mario collection was created on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. and expires at the end of the month (including the digital version). Nintendo spent the week reminding fans that the games will be removed from sale, which may explain a bit of the momentum.

A little further down, Super Mario Odyssey has gone from number 17 to number 13 after a 5% increase in sales.

It was a strong week for Nintendo in general. Six of the box’s Top Ten were Nintendo Switch games and all increased in sales week by week. The biggest increase was Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which went from number 7 to number 3 after a 40% increase in sales. Animal Crossing saw an update this week with items and clothing from the Mario series.

There was no news on the charts, although Yakuza: Like A Dragon returns to the Top 40 at number 35 after the release of the PS5 version.

Elsewhere, Spider-Man: Miles Morales ranks No. 2 after a slight 19% drop in sales, suggesting that PS5 shares continue to enter the UK strongly. However, PS4 reached The Last of Us Part 2 drops from number 3 to number 11. The game had re-entered the charts last week after the price discount.

Last week’s news came down intensely week by week. The new brave default role-playing game 2 falls from number 11 to number 33 after a 74% drop in sales. Meanwhile, Persona 5 Strikers, who debuted at number 5 last week, has completely disappeared from the boxing lists.

This data only counts the physical sales of games.
