Maurice Hurst, Mychal Kendricks leaves at least a month

The 49ers couldn’t make it past their second preseason game without a handful of injuries. Head coach Kyle Shanahan provided news on the players who left Sunday’s win over the Chargers.

Defender Maurice Hurst, a defensive line player, has a high ankle sprain and defender Mychal Kendricks has toes. Hurst only played four snapshots against the Chargers. Kendricks participated only to play a special team before his departure.

“Whenever you have an ankle and a toe, look for at least a month,” Shanahan said. “So this is something we will definitely have to discuss today, how to play at the final position of the list. What do we have to do to get to next week or so. We want to discuss these things at the end of the day and we will have a decision before tomorrow ”.

Hurst and Kendricks had chances to qualify. Keeping them would force the 49ers to enter the year with injured players, but they could lose to another team by giving them up. The way to proceed with both players is not likely to be an easy option for the coaching staff with mandatory Tuesday cuts.

Senio Kelemete, offensively injured, injured his back at the end of Sunday’s game, but avoided a major injury for now. Shanahan said it is the day to day. Cornerman Alexander Myres was assessed for a concussion, but will not enter the concussion protocol after determining he suffered no head injury.
