We all knew how to find the next host for Danger! it would not be easy, given the iconic and universally cherished presence of the late Alex Trebek. But we didn’t think the producers of the popular game show would mess up so spectacularly. After a summer of guest auditions auditioning for the podium, executive producer Mike Richards was chosen for the concert and had the audience shout “who?”. and “why him?”
Richards’ past history of sexual harassment lawsuits, along with his really hateful sexist comments on his podcast The Randumb show, quickly reached the news and Richards left the hosting concert. He is still an executive producer on the series, in a truly mediocre white man who doesn’t go out of style.
Now, the gaming program will feature more rotating guest guests, starting with Mayim Bialik. The Big Bang Theory the actor has already logged in as the host DangerDerived series and tournaments, and Richards vacancy means she is now the first to take on the hosting job.
In many ways, Bialik makes perfect sense as a new host. The former Blossom Russo has been a reliable television presence for decades and, in addition to being an actor, is also a neuroscientist who earned her doctorate in neuroscience from UCLA in 2007. But some of Bialik’s controversial statements may return to to pursue. she.
First, there was her unfortunate 2017 publication in the New York Times titled “Being a Feminist in Harvey Weinstein’s World,” where Bialik’s victim blames survivors of Weinstein’s abuse, writing:
“As a proud feminist, with little desire to diet, have plastic surgery or hire a personal trainer, I have almost no personal experience with men asking me for meetings in hotel rooms … I still have decisions every day “I am an actress who I consider self-protective and wise. I have decided that my sexual self is better reserved for private situations with those with whom I am most intimate. I dress modestly. I do not act flirtatiously with men as a politician.” .
Bialik later apologized for the article.
Then there are the statements against Bialik’s vaccine, which go back to a 2009 interview in People Magazine where he said, “We are a family that doesn’t vaccinate, but I don’t make any claims about people’s individual decisions. We have based ours on research and discussions with our pediatrician and we have been happy with this decision, but it is clear that there is a lot of controversy about it ”.
And in Bialik’s 2012 parenting book, “Beyond the Slingshot,” he wrote that he hadn’t had a vaccine in 30 years. But since then, Bialik has announced that he supports vaccines and has been vaccinated against COVID-19 and has received the flu vaccine. Bialik commented on his choice in a YouTube video he posted last year:
Bialik says, “Finally we talk about it. I wrote a book about ten years ago about my parenting experience and at that time my children had not received the typical vaccination schedule. But never, not once, have I said that vaccines are not valuable, they are not useful or they are not necessary because they are ”.
She continued: “The truth is that I delayed vaccinations for reasons you don’t necessarily know simply because you follow me on social media … To this day, my children may not have had all the vaccines they “Your children have had, but my children are vaccinated. I repeat, my children are vaccinated.”
However, Bialik remains skeptical and says, “I think we give too many vaccines in this country compared to when I was a vaccinated child? Yes. I think most people don’t even know what hepatitis B is, but they vaccinate their newborns anyway because they are simply told? Yes. I think there is a huge benefit to vaccines and specifically to making sure children show up at school? Yes … The medical community often operates from a scary place to make money? Heck yes, yes! ”
Okay, let’s take them one by one. First, how many vaccines are “too much”? Are we supposed to stop medical research and progress because we have reached an imaginary limit of vaccines? No, it’s obviously absurd. Only in the last 30 years have we seen vaccines against chickenpox (chickenpox), rotavirus, hepatitis A and the pneumococcal vaccine, among others. As a parent of a young child, I am grateful that science has advanced enough to be able to protect my child from these diseases.
And why does it matter if we know exactly what hepatitis B is? There are no hidden benefits to hepatitis, Mayim! In addition, the hepatitis vaccine is innovative as it is the first cancer vaccine. Does Big Pharma benefit its clientele? Certainly. But there is no such benefit model for children who attend school safely. No one makes money educating our children (less than all teachers, who deserve a much higher salary than they get).
And while Bialik says these things, she was also Neuriva’s “science ambassador,” a “brain supplement” pill that has as its active ingredient “Coffea arabica,” also known as coffee. Definitely not a good look to rule out vaccine use while promoting caffeine pills with snake oil.
At this point, Danger! should listen to his fans and bring our scientific and trouble-free favorite LeVar Burton. Give people what they want.
