Mayor of Guánica assures that the result in the fight will not change

Following the determination of the Supreme Court establishing that the State Election Commission (CEE) will have to start a count in the struggle for the mayor of Guánica to find votes by direct nomination, the mayor of the municipality, Ismael “Titi” RodriguezHe said today, Tuesday, that the final result will not change.

In his first statements after the decision, Rodriguez expressed that the determination validates what has already been decided by the Court of First Instance.

“We maintain, based on the records we hold, that awarding several unmarked votes with X to the direct nomination candidate it does not alter the final results of the election“Rodriguez said in a statement.

“It is up to the EEC to examine the acts, comply with the determination of the Supreme Court and put an end to this issue,” he added.

On the night of November 3, the EEC results showed the direct nomination candidate, Edgardo Creu Vélez, as the winner of the contest.

However, after the poll, the agency’s portal reflected that Rodriguez, a candidate for the Democratic People’s Party, was awarded about 2,386 votes, while Sants Seda, of the New Progressive Party and past mayor of the city council, received 2,332 votes.

In turn, the portal also reflected about 2,362 votes in the direct nomination column, although it does not specify how many are for Creu Vélez.
