MCHD reports 3 deaths plus COVID; Pause for the J&J vaccine

Three more McLean County residents have died from complications of COVID-19.

All three were men: one 60-year-old and one 70-year-old who did not live in long-term care centers, and another 90 who did so. There have now been 213 COVID-related deaths in McLean County since the start of the pandemic.

The McLean County Department of Health (MCHD) on Tuesday reported 53 new confirmed or probable cases of coronavirus, as the positivity rate of county tests rose to 5.7%.

There are 44 McLean County residents hospitalized with COVID. Hospital bed capacity remained at 4%. There are more patients in intensive care. This rate returns to 88%.

The number of active cases has fallen overnight. That number is now 589, with 545 county residents isolated at home. An additional 68 people are now considered recovered.

MCHD has stopped administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine until further notice. This follows a joint statement from the CDC and the FDA urging them to stop single-dose shots for “plenty of caution,” while health officials review reports of rare and potentially dangerous blood clots.
