McWilliams Arroyo becomes the WBC interim fly champion

the Puerto Rican McWilliams Arroyo won on Saturday the 112-pound World Boxing Council (WBC) interim scepter with a technical knockout in the fifth round on Abraham Rodriguez in the billboard semi-star fight held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, and broadcast by the app of DAZN.

Rodriguez was a last-minute rival for Arroyo, who improved to 21-4 with 16 knockouts and a 4-0 record under Miguel Cotto Promotions. The Aztec replaced on Friday Julio César Martínez, who hours before the heavyweight canceled his participation due to an injury to his right hand.

It was the second time that the clash between Arroyo and Martinez had a stumble. Last August, the lawsuit was postponed because Martinez suffered non-COVID-19 virus-related pneumonia.

On Saturday, Arroyo, 35, dominated the match against Rodriguez, who put a knee to the canvas in the fourth round in the face of the boricua’s punishment. The fajardeño did not give truce in the following assault and I referred stopped the encounter remaining 01:41 minutes of the fifth episode in favor of Stream.

Arroyo finally raised a scepter after failing in his first two starting attempts against Nicaraguan Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez and Thai Amnat Ruenroeng, both defeats by decision.
