The popularity of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sank in Britain after her revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey, a new poll found on Friday.
During the explosive sit-in, the couple filed allegations of racism against the royal family and claimed Markle’s requests for help were ignored after he committed suicide.
Harry’s popularity fell 15 points just a week before the interview, according to the new YouGov poll (via Reuters). Forty-eight percent of the 1,664 participants had a “negative attitude” toward Harry.
The survey also found that only three out of ten people had a “positive view” of Markle after the interview. An overwhelming 58% had a “negative opinion” of the former “Suits” star.
New opinions about the couple – who are expecting a daughter – come after their headline interview, in which they accused the royal family of having discussions about “the darkness” their son Archie’s skin would have when he was born. Markle also alleged that “the firm” did not protect her, as they said they would and let her take the heat for a false narrative that made her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, cry before her wedding. Harry’s father, Prince Charles, also saw his popularity drop in the poll, as 42% of people said they had a “negative view” of him.
During the interview, Harry revealed that his father stopped answering his calls for a period of time after “Megxit”. He also said he tried to help his brother, Prince William, see the “toxic” forms of the royal family’s lifestyle, but was unsuccessful.
