SRINAGAR: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti slammed the central government on Sunday for presenting a FIR over the coverage of the body of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on a Pakistani flag and the alleged raising of “anti-national” slogans afterwards. of his death.
Budgam police registered the FIR against unnamed people under various provisions of the Illegal Activities (Prevention) Act and the Penal Code of India, knowing a video clip showing Geelani’s body surrounded by a Pakistani flag.
However, when police were installed to take over the body, the separatist leader’s aides withdrew the flag.
Geelani, 91, died Wednesday night at his residence after a prolonged illness. The body was laid to rest in a cemetery at a nearby mosque.
Criticizing the FIR’s presentation, Mehbooba tweeted: “Having turned Kashmir into an open-air prison, now even the dead are not spared. A family cannot be mourned and dismissed according to their wishes. “Geelani sahab’s UAPA family reserve shows the paranoia and cruelty of GOI. This is the Naya Kashmir of New India.”
