Member of the National Guard arrested on charges of child pornography

A member of the National Guard was arrested on Friday on a charge of child pornography, authorities reported.

Frederick County Sheriff’s Department he said in a statement on Saturday, Daniel Joseph Morozewicz was arrested at Six Flags in Bowie, Maryland, while on active duty doing work at a COVID-19 clinic. He was arrested without incident.

Through a joint investigation with the Department of Homeland Security’s National Security Investigations, the sheriff’s department said it was able to monitor and track Morozewicz’s actions between Sept. 8 and Dec. 30. 2020.

On February 23, 2021, the U.S. District Court for Maryland issued a federal search warrant for Morozewicz, his home, and his vehicle.

On Friday, sheriff’s detectives and HSI special agents tracked down Morozewicz to Six Flags, where he was arrested. Detectives later found evidence of child pornography at Morozewicz’s home and arrested him.

Morozewicz was taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center to make the reservation, where he was released and released on his own.

Morozewicz has been with the Maryland National Guard since February 2015 and is a corporal assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 175th Infantry Regiment.

Major Kurt Rauchensberg, a spokesman for the Maryland National Guard, told The Hill on Saturday in an email that he was being removed from active duty.

Morozewicz was also a Rockville city police officer, the sheriff’s department noted.

The Rockville City Police Department said in a Facebook post who had been in the agency since July 2013 and was suspended in October 2020 due to an “unrelated staffing issue”.

“We are fully cooperating with the Frederick County Sherriff’s Office investigation and the Department of Homeland Security investigation,” the department wrote.
