Taking care of our mental health It hasn’t always been something we care about, though due to the pandemic by COVID-19 and the restrictions that were imposed have made many problems visible with respect to it.
In such a way, taking care of our mental health is very important because it causes negative effects on our productivity, education, and daily chores, which can lead to problems such as unemployment or school and college dropout. In that sense, the Peruvian Association of Swimming Academies (Apacnat) tells you four reasons why swimming is the ideal sport to take care of our mental health.
1. Regulate the level of stress
Performing some physical activity always has positive effects on our stress levels; however, aPracticing swimming is a very good way to learn to breathe in a more controlled way. and helps to relax the entire nervous system.
2. Anxiety
Also, swimming is an excellent exercise for meditation. As long as we do them in a relaxed way without straining our muscles too much and concentrating on our breathing and pulsations, it will allow us to balance our mood. With which, we can make better decisions and have more self-confidence.
3. Improves learning
Not only almost every muscle in the body is used to swim, but also the two cerebral hemispheres and the four lobes of the brain, which promotes cognitive skills and learning. Likewise, children who learned to swim at an early age better developed coordination and visual-motor skills.
4. Energy
Performing a swimming workout for less than 30 minutes and 3 times a week significantly increases energy levels. This is due to the activation of all the muscles in the body and the low impact that the joints and other more sensitive areas have. So too, swimming free neurotrophic factors, proteins that promote the survival of neurons in the brain such as endorphins, useful for controlling stress, anxiety and mood.
For these reasons, the practice of swimming is not only one of the most complete sports, but in the current situation it becomes a very safe alternative to take care of our mental health.
