The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) said that the situation of 30 medical students in Cuba, who had won the maintenance contract that they had benefited from, was being resolved.
In a press release, he reported that the Minister of the Mescyt, Franklin García Fermín, ordered that the maintenance benefits be extended to them so that they could continue their studies.
In question, the Director General of the Directorate of International Scholarships, Roger Thomas Mora, said that the Mescyt is in the process of implementing the measure, so he has been in contact with students to expedite the procedures that they must be complied with in this respect.
He detailed that the current situation of the students is due to the fact that they were forced to return to the country as a result of the attacks caused by the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide, and the restrictions imposed by the affected countries.
The official assured that the students will receive the aid as soon as the process of ratification of the documents containing the extension of the contract is completed, with the Cuban universities and hospitals where they study.
He stated that Minister García Fermín will be attentive to any situation of Dominican students who receive scholarships or receive support, to seek an immediate solution.
Mora attributes that some situations have arisen with scholarships for the disorders caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has caused many to have to return to the country and resume their curricula.
He did not specify how much the contribution for the maintenance of these professionals amounts to.

A group of resident doctors, who decided to remain anonymous, complained that for more than six months they have been waiting for Mescyt to fulfill its promise to extend the maintenance contract so that it can continue to move forward satisfactorily until culminate their specialty.
“We did everything we were asked to do and everything is legal. We are still waiting and we can’t stand it anymore,” they said in a press release.
