Meteorite sighted in North America | Science | Astronomy – Science – Life


Last Sunday, March 7, the passage of a meteor was spotted over the state of Vermont (United States), and Canada, which impressed those who witnessed the fact.

According to the NASA Meteor Observatory, eyewitnesses reported seeing a bright fireball around 5:38 am that day.

The meteor first appeared over northern Vermont, at an altitude of 84 miles, and moved northeast at 21 miles per second, traversing 53 miles.

The Meteor Observatory, on its Facebook account, posted an image indicating the location of people who saw the passage of the meteorite (black arrows), as well as their trajectory (defined by the blue arrow).

According to reports from the Observatory, “based on more than 100 eyewitness reports, (the meteorite) does not significantly change trajectory, but the speed is reduced to 42,000 miles per hour (19 kilometers per second) “.

The object is believed to be a remnant of an asteroid that “fragmented violently, producing a pressure wave which shook the buildings and generated the sound heard by those close to the trajectory “.

This explosion may also have caused tremors, although the meteor was barely there it weighed 4.5 kilograms and had one diameter of 15 centimeters.

As described by NASA, this was “a small and pleasant firework, courtesy of Mother Nature.”
