The Mets have a new owner, a new team leader and a new catcher.
On Sunday, they officially added a new general manager as the Mets announced they would be hiring Jared Porter, who will work under Sandy Alderson. Porter will be introduced as GM in the Zoom call on Monday.
It comes against the backdrop of a signing team with free-agent catcher James McCann and right-handed relief Trevor May.
George Springer, Trevor Boyer and DJ. All of the biggest goals, including Lemahiu, still have work to do during the slow-moving office, and they will meet the needs of the Mets.
According to industry sources, the 41-year-old Porter has signed a four-year deal to come to Queens after spending the past four years with diamondbacks. He worked for Theo Epstein and Cubs in Boston and won world series titles with both companies. He was selected as another finalist, Sock Scott, who has worked for the Red Sox for the past 17 years.
“I am delighted to join the community, go to work, collaborate with the New York Mets and help build sustainable baseball activity and culture,” Porter said in a statement.
Alderson initially wanted to bring in a team leader, but the plan failed when Mets was unable to get permission to interview the candidates they wanted for the position.
Instead, Alderson will fill Porter as his GM at least this season.
“Jared has proven himself at every level and in every position he has held, earning respect from his peers throughout baseball,” Alderson said in a statement. “He has a deep knowledge of all aspects of the game and has worked with many talented baseball executives. Jared is ready for this next challenge.”
This includes the addition of a cycle featuring Jacob de Chrome and Marcus Stroman, as well as Nova Cindergart rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery.
Jake Otorisi is on their radar, the powerhouse who won the NL Sai Young Award with the Reds last season.
Springer would be another great gift because the Mets could have him plugged into the center and keep Michael Confordo and Brandon Nimmo in the corners. The 31-year-old Springer has been a constant threat to Houston’s lineup for the past seven years.
Having lost Robinson Canoe for the season due to the PED suspension, Lemahiu will fit into the second leg.
But Boer and Springer are the creators of the obvious best difference, J.D. With Realmudo, the Mets considered before highlighting the low-cost McCann.
Alderson has said he will sign with free agents rather than trade from already limited agents. With owner Steve Cohen’s billions, if Alderson and Porter want to go this route, there must be plenty of places to spend this office.
They hired Dave Jazz as manager Louis Rojas’ bench coach, hired a few more coaches, and pitch coach Jeremy Hefner is expected to return.
Alderson is a former GM. Brady von Wagenen and assistant G.M. After the removal of Alert Baird, Adam Goodridge and Omar Minaya, the Mets will have to fill some pre-office roles to work with Porter and Holdover John Rico.
Once the catchment area is exhausted, the pulpit is strengthened, and the front office is integrated, the new look will add additional pieces as 2021 approaches.
