Michael Strahan says “bachelor” host Chris Harrison on Thursday apologized to “Good Morning America” on Thursday for his decision to advocate racist behavior by one of the show’s contestants.
“His apology is his apology, but it seemed to me that I got nothing more than a superficial response to any of this,” said Strahan, who spoke to Harrison about the comments he made in a previous interview with “Extra,” directed by former “Bachelorette” Rachel Lindsay.
Harrison offered the mea culpa to tell Lindsay, who was the first black “Bachelorette,” that “Bachelor” contestant Rachael Kirkconnell deserved “a little grace, a little understanding” after being photographed in a themed planting party.
“I’m an imperfect man, I’ve made a mistake and I have it,” he told Strahan at “GMA”. “I don’t think this mistake reflects who I am or what I stand for.”
Harrison’s comments were not enough for Strahan, who sensed that he was talking to a man who just wanted to save his job.
Harrison recently announced that he was “putting aside” the ABC, which broadcasts the long-running dating program, and told Strahan that he hopes to return to “The Bachelor” someday.
“This interview is not the goal,” Harrison said. “There’s a lot more work to be done.”
After doing the remote video interview with Harrison, the former Giants defensive back quickly looted the host’s motives.
“Obviously, he’s a man who wants to stay clearly on the show,” Strahan added, “but only time will tell if there’s a meaning behind his words.”
Harrison has been on fire since he rejected criticism of Kirkconnell’s behavior; she had been accused of having “liked” the photos of people standing in front of a Confederate flag, in addition to attending the previous themed party.
“Previous parties aren’t good,” Harrison said Thursday morning. “Past, present, future, knowing what this represents is unacceptable.”
ABC, which airs both “The Bachelor” and “GMA,” has not revealed whether Harrison’s departure from the show will become anything more, but has been replaced by former NFL player Emmanuel Acho as host of the next “After the Final” Rosa “special.
Meanwhile, Kirkconnell, who currently competes for Matt James’ heart, apologized for her past behavior and asked people to stop defending her.
“This is not our place to tell people what can and cannot be offended. This is wrong. And that is part of the problem. So stop saying I didn’t do anything wrong. That’s not true, ”he said last week.
