MIDDLE CENTER – The Middletown Sanitation District will not pick up trash and will recycle on Christmas Day (Friday) or January 1st. Both will be picked up for customers on Friday, Monday, according to a press release.
Both Fridays and Mondays will be picked up on the Mondays following the holidays.
Americans generate 25% more waste during the holidays, according to the public works department. “You are not part of this statistic. Buy only what you need. Buy items with little or no packaging. Reuse items as much as possible. Skip the wrapping paper (it is not recyclable), ”officials said in the press release.
The sanitation district will only pick up items that fit in city carts, staff said. Excess recyclable material can be taken to the transfer station at 180 Johnson Street at no cost. Food waste can also be separated and taken away for free. It must be loose and no plastic bags or containers will be accepted, but compostable bags will.
