Miguel Coppel Godoy, Witness against former Nayarit prosecutor Edgar Veytia, arrested in the United States for drug trafficking, died this Wednesday in a hospital in the city of Nayarit, said Cecília Dávalos, ministerial director of the State Prosecutor’s Office.

The official added that since the man had precautionary measures for his involvement in the case against Veytia, his death is being investigated as a homicide, although there are no signs of this.
Coppel Godoy was incarcerated in the Tepic penitentiary, accused of extortion and kidnapping during the Veytia administration. The former prosecutor would have asked to his family 300 thousand pesos to set him free and the deeds of his house. Three years later he was released because there was no evidence against him, but this year he was imprisoned again.
