The mayor of San Juan, Miguel Romero, partially reopened today, Sunday, the facilities of the capital’s Central Park, the first of several recreational areas that will open in the coming weeks.
“(Reopening) is a partial issue, first, because there are some disciplines – at the level of the whole island – that we are not prepared to carry out. We are opening the trot track and the track “, Romero said during a press conference.
These two places will be open to the public from tomorrow Monday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, the mayor said.
“The idea is to get back to normal to the maximum point,” Romero argued.
“Certainly for me it was an imperative to reopen. People need outdoor recreation. This is healthier than being in a mall,” he abounded.
The Natatorio de San Juan and the tennis courts of the sports complex will remain closed, the mayor added, adding that he will also reopen the Escambrón, the Rebekah Colberg sports center and the Luis Muñoz Marín Park.
He stressed that reopening the track and the walking area required maintaining the surrounding green areas, bathrooms and including signs with their own requirements or that fit the pandemic of the VOCID- 19.
However, Romero said the park does not yet have energy service. He added that this matter will be addressed “slowly”. That is why the park will be used only during the day.
Central Park has remained closed since the coronavirus emergency was decreed almost a year ago.
Under the direction of the current former mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto, the municipal administration kept it closed for months, noting that the recreational and sports space had suffered serious damage to its infrastructure and electric lighting.
He believes he posted a message in which he indicated that recent actions in the capital proved his previous expressions. He was referring to the fact that the central government did not help him in the management of the Capital.
“Things are getting done, which is the important thing,” Romero said when asked about Cross’s expressions.
During the press conference, Romero was accompanied by several track users who expressed great satisfaction with the reopening.
