Mikaela Shiffrin won the women’s combined on Monday to set an American record with her sixth world title.
Shiffrin has four golds in slalom and one in super-G from previous worlds.
Shiffrin took third place after the super-G portion, but was the fastest in the slalom stage to beat Petra Vlhova of Slovakia 0.86 seconds. Swiss Olympic champion Michelle Gisin finished 0.89 behind for bronze.
Two of Shiffrin’s top competitors were unable to complete their slalom races.
The leader of the first race, Federica Brignone, placed at the third door, while Italy is still waiting for its first medal in the world this year after five tests. Swiss champion Wendy Holdener also skied early in her career.
Lower-ranking skiers were still down the course.
