Military veteran hospitalized after a violent explosion at Miami airport

MIAMI – Authorities arrested a man at Miami International Airport after a violent attack on several airport employees.

Police later said the man was a military veteran who was entering some sort of crisis. After being arrested, Miami-Dade police said the man was taken to a treatment center for evaluation.

The incident was captured by several people on their mobile phones. It happened Friday night at Miami International Airport.

The man could be seen in the video trying to enter an American Airlines gate in Terminal D.

In a video, the man is seen taking a safety seat and being turned around by spectators, including airport staff.

Witnesses told Local 10 News that they believed the man was intoxicated.

A Local 10 viewer said that just before this confrontation, the man entered the women’s restroom near the D23 gate and entered into a physical altercation with his girlfriend. The viewer said the man was denied boarding on the flight because of his aggressive and possibly intoxicated behavior.

Photographs obtained by Local 10 News show what witnesses said to the man on a medical stretcher outside the airport, surrounded by officers.

While the incident took place at Terminal D, authorities said they took the man into custody near the baggage claim.

Since January 1, 2021, the FAA has received approximately 3,889 reports of undisciplined behavior by passengers, but most of these have been mask violations.

American Airlines released a statement on the incident on Saturday, saying in part:

“When we travel with us, we expect all customers to comply with our policies and we will not tolerate any violence against our team members. We thank our MIA team for their prompt action and professionalism to ensure the safety of our customers and colleagues. the team “.
