MINNEAPOLIS – For the first time in more than six years, the Koper Men’s Hockey Program has topped the two National Men’s Division I hockey polls.
Minnesota (overall 8-0-0, 8-0-0-0-0-0 Big Ten) topped the USCH.com Category I men’s poll, with 40 to 34 votes and 786 total points. USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine topped the 2020-21 men’s college hockey poll with 498 points and 23 first places.
This is the first time since November 10, 2014 that the Cobras have topped the poll.
In the 100th season of the program, Kofers has made his team’s best start since the 1987-88 campaign with eight straight wins and four straight Big Ten series fins. Minnesota has not retreated this season and has beaten its opponents 27-8. Maroon & Gold has actually won 10 straight games at the end of the 2019-20 campaign – the longest winning streak of the program since the 1995-96 season (11 games).
Minnesota has now completed the first part of its 2020-21 schedule. The Big Ten conference will announce the rest of the schedule later.
