Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat faction condemns FIR for covering Geelani’s body in Pak flag

Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat Conference faction led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday condemned the presentation of an FIR on the coverage of the body of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on a Pakistani flag after his death last week.

Police searched FIR against unnamed persons under various provisions of the Illegal Activities (Prevention) Act and the Criminal Code of India on the coverage of Geelani’s body on a Pakistani flag and the alleged uprising of “anti-national” slogans after his death.

However, as police set out to take over the body, the separatist leader’s aides withdrew the flag, officials had previously said.

Geelani died Wednesday night at his residence after a prolonged illness. The body was laid to rest in a cemetery at a nearby mosque.

In a statement, the Hurriyat said it was denouncing the FIR filing against Geelani’s family.

“The details shared by Geelani’s son in the media that the authorities took the body of the 92-year-old leader into his custody and buried him on his own without the knowledge and involvement of the family are terrible and painful. to listen to, ”Amalgam said.

“It is so tragically inhuman when a family is denied the basic right to bury their loved one and one can only imagine why the family has passed away. After so much harshness, the authorities are now harassing the family with FIR and threats of arrest, ”he stated.

The Hurriyat said the people of Kashmir are facing Geelani’s family “in this hour of mourning and injustice.”
