A Southern California woman has been found dead after disappearing on a solo walk, authorities said.
Narineh Avakian, 37, was discovered near Mt. Waterman Trail in the Los Angeles National Forest in San Fernando around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Glendale police department said.
Avakian was last seen when he left his home in Glendale on March 7 for a one-day hiking expedition, police said.
But when he did not return the next day, his family reported his disappearance to authorities.
Avakian did not tell her family where she was heading, but she was an avid hiker, authorities reported.
“For the family, it is common for Narineh to go on group excursions and solo trips, even though she has been going solo lately,” police said.
On Thursday afternoon, his car was found parked in the Buckhorn day use area along Angeles Crest Road, authorities reported.
“It should be noted that the recent snowstorm greatly affected this area,” police said Friday.
No gambling is suspected to have occurred at his death, but the investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
The coroner’s office is now working to determine the cause of death, KCBS-TV reported.
