Mississippi commissions COVID breakthrough isolation

Mississippi, which is in the midst of a devastating COVID crisis, has ordered anyone infected with the coronavirus to isolate themselves at home for 10 days, even if they have been vaccinated. Now anyone who breaks their quarantine can receive a fine or even go to jail. The state has the second lowest vaccination rate in the country, which allowed the Barrel Delta variant to the population. Earlier this week, state health official Thomas Dobbs said Mississippi was facing the “worst part” of the pandemic and only hoped the crisis would deepen. Thousands of schoolchildren are in quarantine and field hospitals have been opened to cater for the falling in love with new patients. The state registered 5,048 new cases on Friday, its pandemic record. “These numbers are staggering,” said Dr. Paul Byers, a state epidemiologist. “They’re real and amazing.”
