Missouri Minimum Wage Rises to $ 10.30 for Private Entrepreneurs Starting New Year’s Day

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (KY3) – Missourians working for a private employer are less than a week away from a statewide minimum wage increase.

The minimum wage rises to $ 10.30 per hour statewide for employees of private companies starting New Year’s Day, according to the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

The increase takes effect in response to Proposition B, which was passed by Missouri voters on Nov. 6, 2018. The legislation provides for a minimum wage increase of 85 cents per hour each year through 2023.

The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations made the following announcement earlier this month about the minimum wage:

“All private companies must pay at least the $ 10.30 hourly rate, except for retail and gross annual sales companies of less than $ 500,000. Missouri minimum wage law does not apply to employers nor does it allow the state minimum wage rate to be lower than the federal minimum wage rate.

Compensation for tipped employees must also be a minimum of $ 10.30 per hour. Employers must pay prone employees at least 50 percent of the minimum wage, in addition to any amount needed to bring the employee’s total compensation to a minimum of $ 10.30 per hour.
