The Chicago Bears have gone from the Mitchell Trubisky era and signed Andy Dalton into the process. While things didn’t end the way I’m sure Trubisky would have liked, he has found a new home in Buffalo.
As reported last week, Trubisky signed a one-year contract with the Bills worth $ 2 million, with $ 1.5 million guaranteed, along with a $ 500,000 bonus. You can win up to $ 4.5 million, with 2 million incentives, but that would take some time to play.
On Monday, Trubisky signed the deal, officially making him the Bills reserve quarterback.

Although his chapter in Chicago is over – for now – there seems to be no hard feeling. Trubisky was one of the most polarizing figures while playing quarterback for the Bears. Trubisky put the team first, stayed out of trouble, was always great with the media, was a great rep for the Bears – be kind and a good role model for the kids and won games of football. Even after all this, it seemed like he could never take a break from fans, former players and the media.
To be fair, Trubisky went from 25 to 13 with Matt Nagy, throwing 57 touchdowns, 30 interceptions and completing 65.3% of his passes. He also made the playoffs twice (0-2) and won the Pro Bowl in 2018.
Trubisky holds the record for most yards passed by a rookie Bears quarterback, as well as being the fastest quarterback to reach 10,000 yards with a Bears shirt.
It will leave the Bears ranking first in passer classification (minimum of 300 attempts), fifth in passing yards, fifth in touchdowns and fifth in wins. Not a bad step in just 50 starts. Trubisky is also the only NFL quarterback to play more than 50 games and has not pitched a career pick-six.
For the future of Trubisky, Bills GM Brandon Beane has not seen him stay in Buffalo for long:
“This is a big reset for him and we don’t expect him to be here in the long run,” he said. “Hopefully, in a year he will have the opportunity to go back and get a good contract and an initial job somewhere.”
Working with the same group that helped Josh Allen make an impressive leap from sophomore to sophomore should help Trubisky improve as a quarterback. If Trubisky can make a leap of his own and win the chance to start somewhere in 2022, the decision to come to Buffalo as a backup will have been a good one.
