MLB star Randy Arozarena “showed off” in play with inmates from Merida, Yucatan

The Cuban, prior to his reinstatement with the Rays, was given time to participate in a peculiar game on Mexican soil

Cuban player Randy Arozarena, star of the MLB Tampa Bay Rays, shared a game in his spare time with inmates at the Center for Social Rehabilitation (Cereso) in Merida, Yucatan.

Randy Arozarena was in Yucatecan lands before traveling to the United States to return to the training sessions of the ninth of the Major League and took advantage of his stay to go to the Cereso to play a meeting with the inmates.

The Cuban, who last season became the sensation of the Rays by guiding them to his second World Series, arrived on the spot on the day of the match and had to go through all the health protocols before the pandemic that is experienced by Covid-19 and after that he entered the field with a mouthpiece to play with.

Arozarena surprised the inmates of the Cereso de Mérida, as they did not expect to share the prison diamond with the player which stood out in the playoffs last season thanks to his 10 home runs and 14 RBIs.

As in the atypical postseason, the toletero wore a pair of quadrangulars, one in the third inning and another in the fifth, which immediately drew applause from those present.

The game ended in victory for his ninth and a great performance from the mound, in the batting box and also stealing bases.

Arozarena developed in Mexico like pelotero, was in the Academy of the Bulls of Tijuana and was indeed with the Toritos with which it emphasized in the heading of beat and robbed bases.

His performance captured the eyes of the St. Louis Cardinals, who in 2016 signed him for a $ 1.25 million contract at the age of 21 and reached the minor leagues to seek further development.

Randy Arozarena also played in the Mexican Pacific League with the Navojoa Mays, before emigrating to U.S. baseball and it was in 2020 that he reached the now American League monarchs.

With the latter team he stood out thanks to the home runs that connected him to the New York Yankees and also the Houston Stars before settling in the Fall Classic that they eventually lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cuban, flaunting his power boots, was named the Most Valuable Player in the American League Championship Series.

Currently, the player is already working with his team in the Great Tent, but before traveling to the United States was when he was given time to play a match at the Cereso de Mérida.
