MLB suspends political contributions after assault on Capitol

The Major Leagues announced Wednesday that they will suspend all political contributions following last week’s raid on the Federal Capitol by a mob of supporters of President Donald Trump, joining a wave of companies that are reconsidering his lobbying duties in Washington.

“In view of last week’s unprecedented events at the United States Capitol, MLB will suspend the contributions of its Political Action Committee pending a review of our political contribution policy in the future,” the league noted in a statement sent to AP.

After last week’s uprising by Trump supporters as Congress tried to certify the results of the presidential election, many companies have said they will avoid making donations to members of the House of Representatives and Senate who voted to reverse the victory of Democrat Joe Biden over Trump.

Others, such as MLB, have completely postponed their political contributions to two political parties. The MLB is the first of the nation’s professional sports leagues to announce that it would alter its lobbying strategy after the riots at the Capitol.
