U.S. officials said Monday that they plan to ship Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine in doses of up to 6 million, after receiving emergency use approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
CNBC reports that Maxon will receive the Moderna vaccine for packaging and distribution to 3,285 sites, according to General Gustav Berna, who is in charge of logistics for Operation Warp Speed, the White House’s Govt-19 vaccine program. . Berna said UPS and FedEx are working to bring the vaccine dose to their final destinations.
CNBC said the vaccine could be released as early as Friday, a week after Pfizer’s corona virus vaccine was approved for emergency use. Like Pfizer, the Modern vaccine is given in two doses four weeks apart.
“The difference in sizes is about what we got when we made the plan for the initial distribution,” Berna said. “At the beginning of the 15th [of] In November, I grabbed the lime line on what was available to Pfizer so states could do the planning. … We wanted them to have enough time to do planning and to realize where they wanted to go first. ”
If Operation Warp Speed, Dr. Monsieur Slavy said on Monday, 20 million Americans are expected to be vaccinated by the end of this year. The 100 million dose is expected to be paid by February 2021.
As the CNBC points out, the US government is currently planning to withhold dosages to ensure people get the second dose they need. Slavy said the government could stop curtailing the scale once it sees “things are rolling right” in January or February.
Berna said, “As our process matures, the share of security in production and distribution, as I said before, will decrease significantly. Our goal, the guidance I am giving, is that a shelf vaccine is not effective. We have two vaccines that are so effective that we want the American people to get it. ”
