A glass door is broken big enough to fit someone.
After breaking it, it looks like the vandals broke inside the building because it also breaks glass from inside. It is unknown if they came out with anything.
The door was plugged and a sign points customers to two more places to do mail business, but there were no police officers guarding the unprotected building.
A contractor was seen measuring the windows and told News4Jax teams that they will come out at some point today by placing plywood to replace the shattered windows.
JSO records show officers responded to the post office for vandalism Wednesday at 8 p.m.
A USPS inspector sent this statement to News4Jax: “The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has responded and is conducting an investigation into the vandalism incident at the USPS-Monument Station on the afternoon of the 30th. December 2020, ”said Adam Schaefer of United States Postal Inspector of States. “We would ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or had information about possible suspects should contact the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.”
Schaefer told News4Jax that they have no surveillance video to share at this time.
News4Jax contacted JSO for more information.
