More than 35,000 people signed up for the COVID vaccine at Ford Field on the first day

DETROIT – Within 24 hours after opening the registry, Meijer has registered more than 35,000 people at upcoming COVID-19 vaccination clinics at Ford Field.

The retailer opened the online registration around 4pm on Monday and has registered about 2,000 people per hour on Tuesday.

Store officials said they have registered more than 1.7 million people for vaccination across the Midwest.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our quick response, but the job isn’t done,” said Rick Keyes, CEO of Meijer. “We are thrilled to bring this technology and our teams of experts to Ford Field to support the State of Michigan and FEMA in this critical endeavor.”

Those wishing to register can send a text message to EndCovid at 75049 and select Ford Field as their location.

Meijer said the chain of stores plans to focus on sending invitations to people based on the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) to vaccinate the most vulnerable in Detroit, as well as Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties.
