According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, more than 80 Illinois counties have extended COVID vaccine eligibility to state residents 16 years of age or older.
Citing a survey of local health departments in the state, IDPH released a list of counties that have already expanded eligibility a week before the state is expected to do the same. There are 102 counties in total in the state.
The state had previously authorized any “local health department” that saw the first signs of unfulfilled appointments to begin vaccinating all residents 16 years or older at its immediate discretion, in order to use the vaccine as soon as possible. and mitigate the increase in new cases of COVID-19, ”IDPH said.
As of April 12, statewide eligibility is expected to increase for all residents 16 years of age or older, although it is unclear whether Chicago will join the rest of the state.

According to IDPH, the expansion would mean that all state-backed mass vaccination sites, local health departments and pharmaceutical partners that receive vaccine from the state allocation “will receive instructions to fully open eligibility.”
