The number of Utahns who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine now exceeds the total number of positive tests for the disease.

According to the Utah Department of Health, nearly 363,000 doses have been injected into patients, including both the first and second doses. This is about 11,400 more than the number of coronavirus cases reported in the state.

As of Thursday, 84,154 Utahns were fully vaccinated, as they received both doses of the vaccine.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in Utah exceeded 1,700, with 14 more fatalities. (Three of these deaths occurred before January 14 and were recently confirmed to be the result of COVID-19).

Overall, there has been a decline in the community’s spread of the virus “statewide,” state epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn said Thursday. There are hotspots, such as Summit County and southwestern Utah, so there is an additional focus in terms of tracking and contact testing, he said.

“Things are looking great for us, in Utah,” he said, as long as people follow coronavirus prevention guidelines, especially important as COVID-19 variants spread.
