Mountain Lion Killed in Hunt County is the same one seen in Rowlett, Princeton – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A mountain lion killed Saturday in Hunt County is the same one that has been seen all over North Texas in recent weeks, state wildlife officials say.

The mountain lion was legally killed by a deer hunter, Texas Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman Megan Radke told The Dallas Morning News. The lion was an adult male weighing about 160 pounds, he said.

A mountain lion was first seen in North Texas on November 22 by a woman and her boyfriend in Rowlett. The couple had installed a trail camera on the edge of their property near Lake Ray Hubbard, which caught the lion walking around four in the morning that morning.

Later, the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife confirmed another observation of a mountain lion near Princeton, Collin County.

There is a large mountain lion roaming Dallas County, officials confirm.

According to the department, mountain lions can be found in much of Texas and rarely cause conflict with people.

Attacks on people are extremely rare, with fewer than 30 confirmed deadly attacks by mountain lions on people in North America in the last 100 years. There is no record of a confirmed fatal attack on a person by a wild mountain lion in Texas.
