Mourning the music of Mexico; Sax and Arturo Castro die

MEXICO CITY.

Eulalio Cervantes, saxophonist of the Mexican rock band La Maleït Veïnatge, and the children of the Fifth Patio, died at the age of 52, after being hospitalized for complications of covid-19, his wife reported on social media Jessica Franco.

With deep pain and sadness I participate in the sensitive death of my beloved husband Eulalio Cervantes Galarza, “he wrote on Twitter, a comment that went viral yesterday afternoon.

Cervantes, better known as Sax, suffered from kidney problems in the last year, so he had already been hospitalized, and later continued his rehabilitation at home.

However, on March 6, he was again admitted to a Mexican state hospital, due to complications from covid-19.

Sax was one of the founders of The Cursed Neighborhood three decades ago and worked hard to make the band a benchmark in the Latin American rock scene.

It was distinguished with subjects like Pachuco and its innovative mixtures of rock, ska, reggae, punk, and even of bolero and danzón.

Sax, born on October 30, 1968 in San Luis Potosí, stood out for his style of playing the saxophone, a sound that was one of the characteristics of the Cursed Neighborhood

The musician began his career at the age of 11 and since then has shown his skill as a saxophonist and clarinetist in high school, when he was part of the Youth Orchestra.

With the Damn Neighborhood, along with Roco, Aldo, Duck, Pacho, Tiki and Lobito, he managed to make songs like Kumbala, Pachuco, Don Words, Dog Leg and Ashes, among others, become public.

The Cursed Neighborhood couldn’t be recognized without Sax’s style, which was fired by his fellow musicians through social media. On the group’s Twitter they said goodbye to Sax, as did other artists such as the band Cafè Tacvba, Lila Downs, Javier Bátiz and Iñaki, from Phobia, who in addition to showing their sadness, highlighted the influence and legacy that the artist leaves on the sound of Latin American rock.

Founder of the Castro Brothers, the musician died at the age of 82, due to a cancerous tumor that afflicted him

The musician and composer Arturo Castro, who was one of the founders of the group Els Castro Brothers, died at the age of 82 from a cancerous tumor that had afflicted him for a long time.

This was confirmed by the National Association of Interpreters (ANDI) through its social networks.

The Castro Brothers maintained their peak for three decades: the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

Arthur maintained a romantic relationship for many years with Olga Breeskin, a romance that was very popular in the arts.

Last year, he married Rosa Yolanda, who has been his girlfriend for the past 40 years.

Born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, from a very young age he showed his love and taste for music. When he was 10 years old he decided to form a trio: Els Panchitos, together with his brothers Jordi and Xavier. He chose this name because of his admiration for Els Panchos and because they had an ability to play the guitar, just like with the adult group.

Thus they were able to appear in some places and arrived at the cinema with small participations estelarizadas by Manolo Fábregas and Marga Lopez.

Already in the decade of years 70, the Castro Brothers integrated, their Gualberto cousin. At that time they were positioning themselves in the musical atmosphere of our house and managed to cross borders to perform in Los Angeles. They got a three-year contract at the Hotel Dunes in Las Vegas.

The group’s success led them to have the opportunity to sing in Spain and later on U.S. television shows such as The Ed Suillivan Show, and Judy Garland’s show.

With acceptance in Las Vegas and several U.S. cities, the Castro Brothers shared the stage with artists such as Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr., Harry Belafonte, Cher and Neil Sedaka, among many others.

Sinatra expressed his admiration for the Castro Brothers.
